Brett Godfrey Biography
“A fine painting is a timeless window into a universe of beauty, thought and expression.” In addition to being an accomplished artist, Brett Godfrey is an internationally renowned trial lawyer who was listed by 5280 Magazine as a “Top Colorado Super Lawyer.” He has tried more than 65 jury trials throughout the United States, and was the founder of Godfrey & Lapuyade, P.C., one of the region’s most prestigious law firms. He has performed legal work in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Scotland, England, South Africa and Hong Kong. Godfrey is also a retired Air Force officer who now flies his company airplane, a Cessna Golden Eagle, to service his clients in Colorado, Wyoming and Texas (where he is licensed to practice law) as well as Utah, New Mexico and California. Before learning to fly in the Air Force, Godfrey was a practicing chemical engineer. Painting has always been a passion for Godfrey, who believes that the purpose of art is to create new worlds for people. “Painting for me is about honesty in expression and depicting reality, not as it is seen by all, but as how it can be seen,” he says. “Fine art is a reflection of its creator and its owner alike – a subject and source of passion and pleasure.” Godfrey’s art is characterized by a unique blending of bold, dynamic images and colors brought harmoniously together with a blending of texture and hue that is his hallmark. His subject matter generally includes landscapes, cityscapes, western and courtroom scenes. He also paints commissioned portraits in oil or acrylic.
