JOSE MANUAL REYES
Jose Manual Reyes Ruiz is one of the most outstanding painters form the School of Jerez. The painters from this geographic area have been noticed because of their treatment of still life, their experience in the cultivation fields, especially the vineyards, and the gardens. Which together with the light of Jerez, makes them real narrators of every day life. Reyes has been noted because of his interpretation. Reyes is one of the primary examples of the painters of still life in Spain. Reyes quality and his original interpretation of the theme has given him much success in the exhibitions he has organized throughout the country, both individually and collectively. The command and maturity that he shows in his works are significant for a young painter of only 38 years old.
His beginnings are to be found in the study of the famous painter from Jerez, Desiderio Morilla, where he received the essential teaching that enabled him to navigate over the magical world of painting. Also, during this time he became very involved in working with color. He was influenced by the great master Zurbaran who, together with Velazquez and Murillo, is on of the most represented painters, and is who was studied tirelessly by Reyes, above all the light and the air which are present in his still life. After that period there came the years of the production of a lot of work, until he found his own personal style, where each one of his pictures is like a postcard. Once you know them, you do not need to look at the signature anymore, his identification is straightforward. Reyes is without a doubt one of the new and firm values of contemporary art.
