JO ANN BROWN “Africa, the depth of people’s character, the nature of ever-changing light and the basic, primal simplicity of the days and nights of one’s life after all extracurricular fluff is stripped away. In a world of chaos and random events, rituals fascinate me.” - Jo Ann Brown Brown grew up in Ohio on acres of green tree-lined hillside and dale until she came west to the University of Colorado to study art and never went back. Brown has been painting ever since, professionally beginning 1976, where she relocated to Evergreen, Colorado. In 1984, Brown was personally invited by the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce to create an original painting – a snowy winter scene, reminiscent of Evergreen and the Christmas season – from which the very first Christmas in Evergreen Limited Edition Posters and Christmas cards were printed and sold. That year began the tradition of the Evergreen Christmas Poster which in subsequent years became a contest open to local artists. Brown’s work began to sell after that key event. In 1992, Brown slowed down the pace and began pursuing other passions. Now once again Brown has turned to painting and enjoying the exhilaration of being newly inspired. Now wiser, weathered by time and more relaxed. The art reveals all, as it always has, and now is better with some years behind it.
